AMR AND PILOTS UNION TO RESUME TALKS

American Airlines' parent company and its pilots union said Tuesday that they planned to resume contract talks this week as the carrier reels from a series of operational problems that threatened to derail its recovery plan.
AMR Corp. executives have said the absence of a new deal with pilots has exacerbated the impact of staff shortages and operational issues that have forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights and left the airline at the bottom of the industry's on-time-arrival statistics.
While flight attendants and ground staff accepted new contracts under AMR's bankruptcy restructuring plan, flight crew rejected a proposed pact and have been working under terms imposed by the company.
