Islamabad,Pakistan : Taking a suo motu notice over the Transparency International Pakistan’s (TIP) allegations regarding financial irregularities in deals of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the airline’s Chairman Rao Qamar Suleman and fixed the hearing of the case for the second week of October.
A TIP application regarding the irregularities was converted into a petition with allegations that PIA had misappropriated finances in some of its deals. The Supreme Court took action after TIP forwarded a request of some PIA employees, published in an English daily on November 19, 2011.
In the news item, the employees had requested to the chief justice to take a suo motu notice of the issue that the airline had finalised an aircraft lease agreement at a very high rate.
