RUSSIA HALTS MIG-29 FIGHTER JET FLIGHTS AFTER FATAL CRASH



Moscow,Russia : New details have been revealed in the crash of a jet fighter in Siberia on Thursday that prompted the Defense Ministry to suspend other flights of the MiG-29.

Piloted by Albert Khadzhiyarov, the aircraft allegedly crashed into a hill for unclear reasons, Interfax cited an anonymous source close to the investigation.“Lieutenant Colonel Khadzhiyarov was a very experienced pilot,” the source said. “There is little chance that he made a fatal mistake.”

Fatal collision

The pilot’s body was found not far from the site of the crash, about 30 kilometers from the Chita, the capital of the Zabaikalsky region.A criminal case has been opened, the Chief Military Investigation Agency said on its website on Friday, but full details are expected after the aircraft’s black boxes are found and transcribed.

The collision happened just minutes after takeoff. The pilot was to execute a low-altitude maneuver during a test flight in the late hours of Thursday.
