PIONEERING FLIGHTS MAKE VANCOUVER AIRPORT A NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
The first transpolar flight — 75 years ago — is just one of the events that has earned Pearson Field in Vancouver, Clark County, the designation of Historic Aerospace Site. The strange-looking airplane and its pantomiming pilot certainly made for an interesting sight, Harry Lindbo said.
But historic?"It wasn't that big a deal to us at the time," he said. That was just over 75 years ago, when Harry, his brother Ole Lindbo and a friend of theirs met three Soviet aviators at Pearson Field.
The first transpolar flight is just one of the events that has earned the Vancouver, Clark County, airport the designation of Historic Aerospace Site.
Pearson joins 60 other sites that have been honored by a program to preserve accomplishments in aviation and aerospace.
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics will be part of a ceremony marking the honor at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. Fifth St. The event is free and open to the public
