Berlin,Germany : Lufthansa cabin crew announced late Monday a fresh strike starting from Tuesday morning in Berlin and Frankfurt, which is expected to ground hundreds of flights and tens of thousands of passengers.
The German trade union UFO, which represents the cabin crew of Lufthansa, said that the walkout would take place from 5 am to 1 pm local time in Berlin's major airport -- the Tegel international airport, and in the Frankfurt airport from 6 am to 2 pm.
The union has called the first round of strike at the Frankfurt airport, Germany's biggest, for eight hours on Friday last week, leading to some 190 flight cancellations with around 26,000 passengers affected.
The UFO said Tuesday's strikes were a new response to the airline company's refusal to meet their demands. The union has been negotiating with the airline for 13 months, asking for a 5-percent pay rise for more than 18,000 cabin crew of Lufthansa.
Lufthansa spokesman Andreas Bartels criticized the union's strike tactics as "very hostile to passengers." The late-night announcement left the company, Germany's largest airline, little time to inform the passengers.
