IATA WELCOMES INTRODUCTION FDI IN AVIATION SECTOR
Bangalore,India : International Air Transport Association (IATA) today welcomed the UPA Government's decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by foreign airlines in the country and said that it was a positive and important step forward.
IATA Country Director Amitabh Khosla, in a statement here, said the move would allow Indian carriers to have strategic tie ups with foreign airlines cemented by an equity stake.
However, he said, 'allowing foreign direct investment by foreign airlines by itself is not a panacea. The critical problems of a high cost environment, insufficient infrastructure and crippling taxes must also be comprehensively addressed within a coordinated government-wide policy framework.'
