HAWAIIAN AIRLINES SUBMITS APPLICATION FOR FLIGHTS FROM KONA TO TOKYO’S HANEDA AIRPORT

Hawaiian Airlines said Thursday that it has completed its application to the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin operating daily flights between Kona International Airport and Tokyo International Airport at Haneda.

The application included 175 letters of support from businesses and individuals for the new route, Hawaiian Airlines, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: HA) said in a statement.

Hawaiian is competing for the route with Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL), which plans to operate the route via Seattle in partnership with with Alaska Airlines (NYSE: ALK); American Airlines, which plans to operate a Los Angeles-Tokyo flight; and United Airlines (NYSE: UAL), which would operate a San Francisco-Tokyo route.
