The Allied Pilots Association board of directors has asked its members to vote on a strike against American Airlines.

Even though they don't have legal permission to walk off their jobs, members of the Allied Pilots Association have been asked by the union's board of directors to authorize a strike against bankrupt American Airlines.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the union's board approved a 300 percent budget increase for its strike preparedness committee.A spokesman for Fort Worth-based American Airlines called the union's announcement a diversionary tactic because a strike would be illegal.
