AMERICAN AIRLINES CANCELS 300 FLIGHTS, INCLUDING SIX AT MIA
American Airlines canceled 300 flights nationwide – including six at Miami International Airport – to counter the shortage of pilots calling in sick and a buildup of maintenance issues filed by flight crews.
Fort Worth, Texas-based American, a subsidiary of AMR Corp. (Pink Sheets: AAMRQ), is planning to cancel about 1 to 2 percent of the flights across its system, spokeswoman Martha Pantin said. There were no cancellations at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport or Palm Beach International Airport, she said.
The cancellations come about a week after a U.S. bankruptcy judge approved the toss-out of the carrier’s contract with the Allied Pilots Association.
To combat the lack of pilots, American reduced its schedule through October, the Dallas Business Journal reported.
