NEW SHOPPING ARCADE TO OPEN AT JAKARTA

Jakarta : Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) is to create a new shopping arcade in the expanded Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International airport in Indonesia, which is due for completion in 2014. The expansion will also feature a check-in lounge, automated border passage, centralised immigration and improved baggage handling services as well as self-service check-in kiosks.
The state-owned enterprise, which is predicting a 4.1%–5.7% increase in passenger numbers at the airport in the next 10–20 years, said Soekarno-Hatta is handling twice the amount of passengers it was built for and cited the high volume of arriving and departing passengers and long queues at security and check-in as the main reasons for expansion.
A spokesperson for the airport operator told DFNIonline: “The shopping arcade will be on a par with other international airports around the world with choices of international fashion brands including our own Indonesian fashion houses.
“The offer and look of our duty-free and non-duty-free shops need to be improved to make the airport a more exciting place to shop before flying.”
